97th Oscars Shortlists Announced Across Multiple Categories


Los Angeles: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced shortlists in 10 categories for the 97th Academy Awards, APA reports. Fifteen films will advance in the Documentary Feature Film category for the 97th Academy Awards. One hundred sixty-nine films were eligible in the category. Members of the Documentary Branch vote to determine the shortlist and the nominees.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the films listed in alphabetical order by title for the Documentary Feature Film category are: ‘The Bibi Files’, ‘Black Box Diaries’, ‘Dahomey’, ‘Daughters’, ‘Eno’, ‘Frida’, ‘Hollywoodgate’, ‘No Other Land’, ‘Porcelain War’, ‘Queendom’, ‘The Remarkable Life of Ibelin’, “Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat’, ‘Sugarcane’, ‘Union’, ‘Will and Harper’. Additionally, fifteen films will advance in the Documentary Short Film category, selected from one hundred four qualified films. The shortlist includes titles like ‘Chasing Roo’, ‘Death by Numbers’, and ‘Eternal Father’.



In the International Feature Film category, fifteen films have been shortlisted from 85 eligible countries and regions. Academy members from all branches participated in the preliminary voting round, with a requirement to view a minimum number of films. The shortlisted films include Brazil’s ‘I’m Still Here’, Canada’s ‘Universal Language’, and France’s ‘Emilia P©rez’.



For the Animated Short Film category, fifteen films were selected from eighty-eight qualified entries. Members from the Animation and Short Films Branches participated in the voting, with requirements for viewing all shortlisted films. Some of the titles in this category are ‘Au Revoir Mon Monde’, ‘A Bear Named Wojtek’, and ‘Magic Candies’.



Nominations voting for these categories is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, and will conclude on Sunday, January 12, 2025. The nominations will be announced on Friday, January 17, 2025. Due to a fire in Los Angeles, the Oscar ceremony has been postponed to March 2.
