AZAL President Projects 600,000 Barrels of Sustainable Aviation Fuel by 2035.

Baku: Samir Rzayev, President of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), has highlighted the forecast for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), projecting production to reach approximately 600,000 barrels by 2035. Rzayev made this statement during the “International Aviation and Climate Change” event, which was part of the COP29 conference in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Rzayev emphasized the current efficiency in crude oil production, stating that AZAL produces crude oil with a carbon footprint of 9.6 kilograms of CO2 per barrel, significantly lower than the industry average of 32 kilograms per barrel. He pointed out the growing demand for jet fuel, which currently stands at 6.3 million barrels daily and is expected to rise to 8.3 million barrels in the future. This anticipated increase underscores the crucial role of low-carbon aviation fuel (LCAF) in meeting industry demands while reducing environmental impact.

Rzayev’s remarks reflect the aviation industry’s ongoing efforts to transition towards more sust
ainable practices, encouraging the oil and gas sector to further reduce its carbon emissions. The transition to SAF and LCAF is seen as an achievable target that aligns with global environmental goals and the industry’s commitment to a greener future.
