Tehran: Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) CJSC Rovshan Rustamov met with Head of Iranian Railways Jabbar Ali Zakeri Sardroudi within the framework of the next meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran Intergovernmental Commission held in Tehran, Azerbaijan Railways told APA-Economics.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the railway leaders discussed the expansion of the activities of the cargo terminal located in the Iranian city of Astara and the work carried out at the terminal. The Astara terminals in both Azerbaijan and Iran facilitate faster and more effective implementation of increasing cargo handling volumes along the North-South corridor. This contributes to realizing the strategic potential of the corridor, strengthening the transport infrastructure of Azerbaijan and Iran, and developing regional trade.
During the meeting, Azerbaijan Railways and Iranian Railways signed a “Strategic Cooperation Plan on the Construction and Implementation of the Operation Agreement for the Astara Terminal.” This document includes the approval of the Master Plan of the Astara terminal, the completion of construction work at the terminal by the end of this year, the recognition of final investments, and other issues as outlined in the railway section of the Protocol of the 16th Intergovernmental Joint Commission signed between Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran on January 22, 2025.
