Azerbaijan Arrests Military Expert for Alleged Dissemination of State Secrets.

Baku: A military expert accused of disseminating information constituting a state secret has been arrested, the Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office told APA. The arrest of Adalat Verdiyev marks a significant action by Azerbaijani authorities in their efforts to curb the unlawful sharing of sensitive information that could jeopardize national security and defense capabilities.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the prosecutor’s office, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, is actively engaged in measures to prevent the spread of state secrets and legally restricted information through media and internet platforms. During recent monitoring, it was discovered that on November 22, Adalat Verdiyev, a military expert with special authority, shared sensitive information that seriously compromised the state’s security interests. Verdiyev previously served as the chief of the civil defense headquarters at the “Center for Public Health and Reforms” under the Ministry of Health of Azerba
ijan and held a qualified officer position in the Armed Forces.

A criminal case has been initiated, with the preliminary investigation being handled by the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office. The investigation revealed that Verdiyev, during a media tour to liberated territories, recorded and shared a video displaying strategic military locations and operational conditions, which he then disseminated through his social media account. This act, deemed a misuse of his official powers, resulted in substantial damage to Azerbaijan’s state security and defense interests.

Based on the evidence, Verdiyev faces charges under the Criminal Code for divulging state secrets and abusing official authority, leading to serious consequences. He has been remanded in custody by the Binagadi District Court following the investigator’s motion and a prosecutor’s recommendation.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have committed to holding accountable those responsible for the breach, with furt
her updates to be shared with the public as the case progresses.
