Azerbaijan Discovers Remains of Missing Indian Tourist in Zagatala Forest

Zagatala: Azerbaijan has discovered the remains of Manikanth Kondaveeti, an Indian tourist who went missing in the Zagatala region over three years ago. On February 9, Zagatala Regional Police Station personnel uncovered the remains, along with a handbag, bank cards, a mobile phone, and other personal items belonging to Kondaveeti, in the “Shamilovka” forest massif near the village of Jar in the Greater Caucasus Mountains.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the remains and belongings were retrieved from the highland area and submitted to the Zagatala regional prosecutor’s office for examination. An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding Kondaveeti’s disappearance and subsequent death.

Kondaveeti went missing on May 13, 2022, after venturing alone into the forested area of Zagatala. Despite extensive search efforts involving police, volunteers, and specially trained dogs from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, no trace of him was found at that time. His family had announced a reward of 40,000 AZN, hoping for his safe return. The recent discovery of his remains concludes the lengthy search, but authorities are expected to continue investigating the case.
