Azerbaijan Extradites Uzbek Citizen Detained for Fraud


Baku: An Uzbek citizen has been extradited to his country, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan told APA. The individual, Akif Imran Rzayev, born in 1962, was detained in Azerbaijan in January and placed under preventive detention.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the extradition request came from the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Rzayev was wanted under Article 168, Part 4, Part “a” of the Uzbek Criminal Code for fraud committed with a particularly large amount of damage. The request was granted by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan.



The extradition was carried out in accordance with the “Convention on Legal Aid and Legal Relations in Civil, Family, and Criminal Matters” dated October 7, 2002. Rzayev was transferred to the Uzbek authorities under the escort of a special convoy from the Ministry of Justice’s Penitentiary Service.
