BAKU: For the first time in Azerbaijan, a cluster-based approach will be adopted for cotton cultivation, following the Uzbekistani model, Trend reports.

According to the Economic Zones Development Agency (IZIA), the founders of the Uzbek TST Textile Group company met with representatives of the IZIA and Imishli city executive authority.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the implementation of a contract signed on July 5, which grants a Uzbek company long-term use of 5,826 hectares of an agricultural park in Imishli managed by IZIA.

It is noted that TST Textile Group plans to establish a cotton field, which will play a pivotal role in Azerbaijan’s cotton industry development. Initially, 28.7 million manats will be invested in this endeavor.

Additionally, the company plans to construct cotton processing, yarn, textile, and garment production plants, along with a cotton oil production facility, between 2025 and 2029.

The cotton processing and oil production plants will occupy 5,826 hectares in Imishli,
while the yarn, textile, and garment production facilities will be situated in the Mingachevir Industrial Park. This comprehensive project spans from raw materials to finished goods production, promoting a cluster approach.

The total investment in the project will amount to 92.5 million manat, or $54.4 million, with plans to create 1,130 jobs. Funding will include contributions from the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Investment Fund alongside internal resources.

Ultimately, this project aims to establish a cluster-based cotton cultivation model in Azerbaijan, inspired by the Uzbekistan model.
