Azerbaijani MFA Summons Iranian Chargé d’Affaires

Baku: The Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Azerbaijan, Seyyed Jafar Aghaei Maryan, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, as reported by the Press Service of the MFA to APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the meeting, protests were voiced against the recent campaign targeting Azerbaijan and its leadership in Iranian press organizations that are closely associated with the government. It was highlighted that the Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran had been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and faced an unfounded protest following the 16th meeting of the “State Commission on Economic, Trade and Humanitarian Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran” held in Tehran. This meeting occurred after a long hiatus and included fruitful official discussions, yet was followed by a campaign in the Iranian press that led to misunderstandings.

Furthermore, it was pointed out that instead of an apology from I
mam of Friday Seyyid Hassan Ameli for offensive remarks made against Azerbaijan during a meeting in Ardabil, a supportive campaign for Ameli was launched. Several religious figures, including the Qazvin Imam of Friday, were involved in activities against Azerbaijan, which was deemed unacceptable.

The actions are seen as attempts to damage the relationship between the two countries, and it was stressed that measures need to be taken to prevent such occurrences. The Iranian chargé d’affaires expressed regret over some of the statements and activities and assured that he would report the issue to the appropriate authorities in Iran.
