BAKU: A World Summit of Religious Leaders will be held as part of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku on November 5-6, a source in the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) told Trend.

According to the source, the summit will be held by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, the Muslim Council of Elders, the CMO, and the United Nations Environment Programme

This global forum is set to roll out the red carpet for around 30 leaders from both secular and traditional religions. It will showcase heads of prominent religious centers-patriarchs, officials from the Vatican, and Al-Azhar-along with internationally recognized religious and public figures hailing from various corners of the globe and diverse faiths. It will bring together a mixed bag of representatives from government, academia, and religious institutions hailing from 55 countries and 30 international organizations, along
with a few media representatives in the mix.

The upcoming event in Azerbaijan, which prior to it hosted the I and II World Summit of Religious Leaders, aims to contribute to the assessment of climate change-a pressing human issue that is vital for the future of our planet. Additionally, the announcement by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan that 2024 will be the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” supports this valuable global initiative, fostering human solidarity for the future of the Earth.

Another international success for Azerbaijan is the mobilization of wise and effective proposals and efforts by world religious leaders to combat climate change within the framework of COP29, the source added.
