Baku: Bakhtiyar Najafov has been nominated for the position of Yerevan Qadi of the Qadi Council of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO), Chairman of the CMO Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh announced at a recent meeting of the Council of Elders of the CMO.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the appointment of Bakhtiyar Najafov as the Iravan Qadi was confirmed through a voting process. The Statute of the Iravan Qadi was also approved during the meeting, with Fuad Nurullayev, Deputy Chairman of the CMO, reading out the details to the attendees.
It was highlighted that, for the time being, the Yerevan Qadi will operate from the building of the CMO. Allahshukur Pashazadeh emphasized the significance of this appointment, noting that historically, more than 300 mosques and numerous madrasahs existed in the Yerevan province, and the most respected individuals in Azerbaijan have historically been appointed as Yerevan Qadis.
The meeting, aimed at the restoration of the Irevan qadi’s activities, was attended by key figures, including members of the Council of Elders, representatives from the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations, and Members of Parliament. The event was officially inaugurated with the national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, underscoring the importance of the occasion.
