Baku: 137 million people worldwide are currently living in hunger, according to Viorel Gutu, the Assistant Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia. He shared this figure during his speech at the “Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative for Farmers” event, which is part of the COP29 conference.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Gutu highlighted the critical role that food systems play in addressing this issue. He noted that current funding for the food sector is inadequate, having fallen below 37%. This shortfall underscores the pressing need for increased investment to tackle global hunger effectively.
Gutu expressed hope that the ‘Baku Harmony Climate Initiative for Farmers’ would act as a catalyst for climate finance, thereby contributing to the necessary funding to combat hunger worldwide.
