Meeting at Baku Initiative Group Discusses Neo-Colonialism and Environmental Compensation.


Baku: A meeting was held at the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) office with representatives from several African nations and states that have experienced colonialism, who were visiting Azerbaijan during the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), APA reports. The attendees included MPs from Mali, Togo, Djibouti, Nigeria, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Mauritania, along with heads of non-governmental organizations, politicians, eco-activists, and human rights defenders.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting involved discussions between the BIG delegation and the African representatives on new forms of neo-colonialism and strategies to counteract them. The participants deliberated on the implementation of joint cooperation projects and addressed issues concerning environmental and human health damages. Furthermore, there were calls for compensation to address the adverse impacts experienced by these nations.
