ASHGABAT: Turkmenistan and Sweden have held high-level political consultations in Stockholm, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring new collaboration opportunities, Trend reports via the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan. The Turkmen side was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova, while the Sweden side was headed by Chief of the Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tobias Thyberg. The discussions addressed global and regional issues including peace, security, counter-terrorism, environment, and energy. The meeting underscored the importance of active engagement in international organizations such as the UN, OSCE, and the EU. Turkmenistan invited Sweden to participate in upcoming events and suggested using international platforms for high-level meetings. The discussions also highlighted the EU's Global Gateway initiative and the need for innovative collaboration formats. Additionally, the Turkmen delegation met with Björn Söder, Head of the Friendship Group for Central Asia in the Swedish Parliament, to discuss boosting interparliamentary relations and agreed to an online meeting between the Friendship Groups in October. Further talks with Torbjörn Solström, Director General for Euro-Atlantic Affairs and Security Policy of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed Sweden's interest in deepening ties with Central Asia, particularly in parliamentary cooperation, ecology, energy, and cultural exchanges.
