World premiere of Kyrgyz “Kyz Ala Kachuu” film to take place in South Korea

The film «Kyz Ala Kachuu» directed by Mirlan Abdykalykov has been selected for Jiseok competition program of the 28th Busan International Film Festival, which will be held in South Korea from October 4 to October 13. The producer Altynai Koichumanova reported.

The JiSeok competition section was created for well-known Asian filmmakers who have made three or more feature films. The award, which was established in memory of a program director Kim Jiseok, will be awarded to the top two films in the section.

In addition to the Kyrgyz film, this competition section includes works from Japan, China, Indonesia, Bangladesh, South Korea, Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Philippines — a total of 10 films.

In the new film, through the dramatic story of the girl Umut, director Mirlan Abdykalykov raises the topic of abduction of girls, which is relevant for Kyrgyzstan, trying to understand the reasons for this phenomenon, the role not only of the abductors, but also of society as a whole. Filming took place in the new residential areas of Bishkek.

Cast: Akak Berdibekova, Elchibek Shamenov, Mairambek Erkegulov, Ainura Akylbekova.

The Busan International Film Festival is the largest film festival in Asia. It has been held annually in the South Korean city of Busan since 1996 and specializes in screening new works by aspiring directors.
